How Do I Start a Plus Size Modeling Career?

» Posted by Rahim

The modeling industry is not exclusive to skinny women who abhor burgers and only eat rabbit food. If you are a size twelve and above woman, you can still get into the modeling industry. In recent years, the full figured woman is becoming more appreciated because the masses can see now see through the body ideals that mass media has been shoving down people’s throats. “Real” bodies are now appearing on the catwalks. So how do you get into plus size modeling?

The first thing you need to do is find out how many modeling agencies are in your area. You should then call them up and find out if they also represent full size models. Schedule to meet with the ones that do so you can figure out if it will be to your advantage signing up with them. Make sure you have taken some headshots of yourself as you will need to carry these to the modeling agencies. The headshots should be done by a professional photographer who will flatter your figure. Take several outfits for the shoot so that you can get your headshots with several looks.

While you are scouring for modeling agencies, you could also try to find some part time modeling work for the time being. Visit your local shopping malls and enquire if they need live in house models. You could wear the clothes from the plus size department and strut around the store so that the customers can get a better look at the fit. This may not give you catwalk experience, but it will give you something to put in your resume. Not to mention that the extra money could come in handy in your attempts to further your plus size modeling career.

Do not quit your day job! Before models start having a lucrative career they have to attend hundreds of auditions and it may even take up to a year before you get regular modeling gigs. For this reason, you should retain your nine to five as you will still need to pay the bills.

When going for auditions, make sure you go fresh faced and dressed in clothes that flatter your figure. You should also have your headshots with you and your resume. Your pictures should include one full body shot, one in swim wear and a close up of your face. All three should be as glamorous as possible as these will stay with the casting directors and they are what they will us e to remember you. Remember to always let your personality come through when you go for the auditions. If you are pleasant, sassy and confident you will definitely make an impression. Making a good impression increases the chances of the casting director wanting to work with you. Maybe not necessarily for the job you have auditioned for, but they could remember you and contact you for something that would be better suited for you.

Never give up! The more auditions you attend, the higher your chances of breaking into the industry.

How Do I Start a Kid’s Modeling Career?

» Posted by Rahim

A modeling career for your child could have quite a number of advantages. Not only is it lucrative, it also builds your child’s self-esteem and confidence. Children also have a variety of modeling options ranging from print to commercials to even runway. The sky is the limit. But where do you start when your child wants to get into modeling?

The first thing you should get is pictures of your child. Your best option would be to go to a professional photographer. Not only will they take pictures that will make your child look natural, but they will also be of high quality. A professional photographer will be a bit expensive! For the parents who cannot afford to pay for a professional photographer, you could opt to take the pictures on your own. Ensure you do this with a good quality digital camera as the pictures need to be clear and focused. Try to get shots of your child’s natural smile as casting agents can spot a plastic smile from a mile away.

Your next step would be to look for children’s modeling agencies in your area. The bigger the town you live in, the chances you will find more modeling agencies. Make sure you do some research on all prospective modeling agencies. A modeling agency should not charge you any money for them to sign up your child; this typically means that they are an unscrupulous agency. Find out what careers they have launched and look through their model base. Big agencies may be well known but smaller agencies may give your child more personalized attention. You should decide what would work better for your child.

While you are waiting to be notified about auditions by the modeling agencies, you could also scour for opportunities for your child on your own. Visit our local malls and find out if they need child models for their kids’ clothing department. This may not be what your child had in mind, but it will give them some form of experience. You may also come across casting calls for children in the newspapers or on websites online. If your child is cast for a photo-shoot through these auditions, you should not be expected to pay the modeling agency a commission. This is because they did not get the opportunity for you. All other gigs that are contracted by the modeling agency will require you pay them their stipulated commission.

Always accompany your child during go sees. Go sees are whereby your child will be expected to meet with the client that has contacted the modeling agency. There are like mini auditions that are done in person at the client’s office. Having you there will make your child less nervous. Plus it would not hurt their confidence if they had you there cheering them on.

You will also need to remind your child that getting into the modeling industry could be a tough road. You will have to stay motivated so that you can keep their spirits up.

MindSoulVision of the Week

Mindsoulvision is putting together a new section called the MindSoulVision of the week. This section will give up and coming models, wannabe models and those who are looking to get into the arts a chance to be seen by producers, directors, modeling agencies, promoters and much, much more. To enter all you have to do is submit one high resolution picture of yourself (1024 x 768 and no camera phone pictures please) and bio (who you are and where you are going with your career) so those reviewing your photo can better get to know you and perhaps match you up with potential available jobs.

Even if you are not interested in getting into the entertainment industry you can still submit pictures of yourself or children for ratings and a chance to win a valuable prize from MindSoulVision. So break out those cute kid pictures!

Each participant’s post will also come with a rating box which will allow viewers to rate your image and bio on a scale of 1 to 5 stars. The person with the highest rating at the end of the month will win a prize valued at $250 at the end of each month good towards purchase of MindSoulVision services. This is a good opportunity to get your friends to come and vote for you to win and comment on your photo and bio. Prize winners are determined by the amount of votes your picture and bio get by the end of each month and not by MindSoulVision staff so it is important to get your votes up. Send all submissions to rahimb@mindsoulvision.com.

Don’t forget to check daily for casting calls at MindSoulVision.com in your area.

Good Luck!!!
